Original story
In the wave of the Cornell 7, people forget about small colleges. I have since transitioned and identify as a transman. But at the time I still looked like a woman and didn’t know I was transsexual. In 2018 before I graduated, I met this guy at my small private art college. We had a small library and an editing bay at a different room. I always stayed behind to finish my projects. The library student worker was usually there with me alone since it was late into the night. I went there one night to check out the room. He seemed kind of weird but I didn’t think much of it. I contuined several days doing my work etc, staying late at night. One night he came in to check on me and was really weird. I felt off but had to get my project done. He sat on the floor of the room as I ate the dinner my mom packed. Then after I ate he started to kiss me and I felt weird. I didn’t move or say anything. He told me we would continue this later. I was just shocked and didn’t go home right away as I wished now I had. Later he came back to tell me the library was closed and started to kiss me and hug me which I felt weird again. I lived down the street from the college so after security locked up and the school was closed he offered me a ride home. Told me folks were scary out there. Now thinking back I wasn’t very smart because I accepted the ride. Instead of driving me down the street home, he drove to a nearby park and parked on street then pulled out his 🍆 and told me to do things to it. I was scared and didn’t know what to do so I used my hands. He told me to go to the back seat where this contained till he finished. Then he drove me home. The next few days he didn’t really talk to me and started dateing one of the popular girls. I always felt sorry for her seeing them together. If she knew what he was really like but she mean like Regina from Mean Girls. I didn’t tell the college anything because I didn’t know how this would end up or if people would hate me so I just let it go. So SA happens on small campuses as well even more so since they don’t have any kind of security department or have to follow Title IX laws. Plus they are not well known like Cornell or UCLA and won’t face pressure and public backlash to do things right and protect their students.

Grounding activity
Find a comfortable place to sit. Gently close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths - in through your nose (count to 3), out through your mouth (count of 3). Now open your eyes and look around you. Name the following out loud:
5 – things you can see (you can look within the room and out of the window)
4 – things you can feel (what is in front of you that you can touch?)
3 – things you can hear
2 – things you can smell
1 – thing you like about yourself.
Take a deep breath to end.
From where you are sitting, look around for things that have a texture or are nice or interesting to look at.
Hold an object in your hand and bring your full focus to it. Look at where shadows fall on parts of it or maybe where there are shapes that form within the object. Feel how heavy or light it is in your hand and what the surface texture feels like under your fingers (This can also be done with a pet if you have one).
Take a deep breath to end.
Ask yourself the following questions and answer them out loud:
1. Where am I?
2. What day of the week is today?
3. What is today’s date?
4. What is the current month?
5. What is the current year?
6. How old am I?
7. What season is it?
Take a deep breath to end.
Put your right hand palm down on your left shoulder. Put your left hand palm down on your right shoulder. Choose a sentence that will strengthen you. For example: “I am powerful.” Say the sentence out loud first and pat your right hand on your left shoulder, then your left hand on your right shoulder.
Alternate the patting. Do ten pats altogether, five on each side, each time repeating your sentences aloud.
Take a deep breath to end.
Cross your arms in front of you and draw them towards your chest. With your right hand, hold your left upper arm. With your left hand, hold your right upper arm. Squeeze gently, and pull your arms inwards. Hold the squeeze for a little while, finding the right amount of squeeze for you in this moment. Hold the tension and release. Then squeeze for a little while again and release. Stay like that for a moment.
Take a deep breath to end.
